How the research works
We choose a family branch or a specific question. Family memories provide useful leads; names, marriages and links between generations are checked against documentary evidence.
I research family histories across Ukraine and historical Ukrainian regions. I work with vital registers of different religious communities and other archival sources from the former Russian Empire and Austria-Hungary. Changes in borders, village names and surname spellings are taken into account.
The result should be understandable and easy to build upon. I distinguish supported facts from hypotheses and keep unresolved questions visible in the report. How far the tree can go depends on surviving records.
