Your researcher in Ukraine

Family stories begin with a careful reading.

I am Serhii Panchyshyn, a historian and genealogist. I investigate family connections, work with archive records and explain how individual documents help reconstruct a family’s past.

I research family histories across Ukraine and historical Ukrainian regions. I work with vital registers of different religious communities and other archival sources from the former Russian Empire and Austria-Hungary.

Master’s degree in History, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.

Galicia and Polissia provide two examples of working with different sources. My research covers all of Ukraine and historical Ukrainian regions. Both books are in Ukrainian on my main website.

Before we begin

You may be wondering…

Which regions do you research?

I research all of Ukraine and historical Ukrainian regions. For each locality, I identify relevant sources and check their survival and accessibility, regardless of the region.

Can I commission research while living abroad?

Yes. We can discuss the work and exchange results through WhatsApp and email. We agree on the language of correspondence and the report before beginning.

I do not know the exact village. Should I still get in touch?

Yes. Send any spelling variants, an old document or family recollections. We will first assess whether there are enough clues to identify the place.

What does it cost, and is a discovery guaranteed?

The budget depends on the task and access to sources, and is agreed in advance. I cannot promise a discovery or a particular number of generations. If a record is not found, I explain what was checked and what may be possible next.

Let’s start with your family
