How the research works
Before the consultation, you send your main question and the material you have already worked with. This might include tree entries, document copies, archive replies or a list of registers checked.
I assess which conclusions are supported and which need further evidence. I look at historical place names, gaps in dates and sources that may help continue the search.
You receive a direction for independent research or a starting point for a separate research commission. A detailed consultation is a paid service; a brief initial assessment of your enquiry is free.
What you receive
- A review of the supplied information within the agreed question.
- Possible sources and details that need clarification.
- A plan of next steps with an explanation of their order.
What to prepare
- One main question you want to answer.
- Copies of key documents or links to them.
- A list of archives, registers and databases already checked.
